The d4 opening is the second most commonly used of all the openings,and is a very good opening. it's got a very good potential for the players who like positional play.The most common openings which arise after d4 are

- Benko Gambit
- Benoi
- The Dutch
- Gruenfled
- Queen's Indian
- Nimzo Indian
- King's Indian
Out of these openings the most common are the
Queen's Gambit and the
